People are drawn to crystals for various reasons. Some simply appreciate them for their beauty. Others cherish them for their healing and vibrational properties. Whatever the reason on how or why you’ve gotten started on your crystal collection, it is important to mindful that they both absorb and give energy, so it’s extremely vital to remove any built-up negativity. Personally, I’m drawn to the fact that each are assigned with a pure and sacred intention. Perhaps it is one of the main reasons that gemstones are a staple in my jewelry. The clearer the energy of a healing stone, the more powerful it is and developing a cleansing ritual with your crystals is important when establishing a relationship with them. Crystals and healing gemstones need to be cleared as soon as you buy or receive them and after every healing work. Always choose a method that feels sacred to you and that is convenient and works with your lifestyle. In fact, it is acceptable to use various methods as the main objective is for you to make it a habit of regularly cleansing your crystals. Although stones, crystals and minerals are structurally different, for the purpose of simplicity, crystals and stones will be used interchangeably.
- Smudging
This method involves igniting some herbs, mainly sage and rosemary, or sticks like Palo Santo and dousing your crystals under the smoke.
- Water
Allow your crystals to sit in a bowl under cool running tap water for several minutes. However, make note of which crystals you immerse, as there are some that are water sensitive. This is especially for those stones that are porous (e.g. Selenite and Tourmaline) or have a high metal content.
- Sunlight/Moonlight
Cleansing your gemstones under the sunlight or moonlight is perhaps one of the most potent methods. Place your crystals on the windowsill on a full moon or during Sunlight Peak. Cleansing your crystals under the moonlight infuses them with feminine energy and additionally charges them. If you opt to place them out in direct sunlight, there are stones that are photosensitive and tend to fade. For example, amethyst, citrine, rose quartz, sapphire, and fluorite, just to name a few.
- Bury In The Earth
Burying your stones in the earth not only cleanses your stones but also offers an added dose of soothing and grounding energy.
- Salt
Salt has been used by many cultures and in various rituals as it’s considered to be a very sacred element. Bury your crystals in a bowl with salt and let them sit for about an hour. A word of caution, as stones with water sensitivity, these stones cannot be used with salt. In addition, salt cannot be used with geodes as salt can get trapped.
