Elephants are generally considered symbols of strength, honor, stability and tenacity. An elephant with a turned up truck is believed to bring good luck and protection.
Our elephant chimes are hand formed out of recycled metal sheets of steel by artisans in the Kutch desert region of India.
The three dangling desert bells are handmade and hand tuned by third generation artisans using techniques believed to be over a thousand years old. Sheets of recycled steel are hand hammered into shape, coated with copper powder and then annealed in a kiln in the desert, a process that gives each it’s unique patina.
Bells were originally used by villagers to identify and organize herds of animals and each family tuned their bells so they could easily differentiate their animals from the rest.
As local demand for these bells diminished, artisans eager to keep traditions alive began introducing them to Westerners who appreciate them for their beauty.
We’re confident you will smile every time you hear these magical bells chime.
